Welcome Spring!

Since my last post we have enjoyed St. Patrick's day...I made corned beef and cabbage for the first time ever and I thought it was good, but it made a lot so we were all eating it for a while. Patrick and I went to San Felipe Mexico for a long weekend, we went to the desert for my cousins and nephew's birthday, and Ian got to go to Utah for the weekend of his mission reunion.

Spring has come and daylight savings time has been in affect so it stays light a little later. Last Friday a girlfriend and I went to the beach for sunset, it was nice end to a week of hard work. We have had some rain here and some cool nights, but mostly great weather as usual. Ian is still working hard to get more side jobs and I help him with them. I also work for All Clean Sweeping as their marketing person and I also try to sell things that everyone else buys!

Patrick is growing up so fast. He is almost in Nursery and talks pretty clear...he screams very clear! Loves balls and cars, we have fun, he likes it most when we get to play with other kids. Till next time, Love the Johnstons

This week has been full of work and as much play as possible. Patrick and I went to play group our ward does on Tuesdays. He really likes to play with the kids. For the weekend we had lots of fun including my uncle Gary's birthday party. Ian also did the swap meet all morning Saturday, he is trying to sell some things he bought at a storage auction...so far its going slow.

Our sweet friend Robyn Welcker made Gary a cake that looked like a sand dune with a couple buggies, so cute and Yummy!!

Sunday we went for a nature hike at Black's Canyon. It was beautiful and had lots of water running since we have had all the rains lately.

Another friend Patrick is most fond of is Jordan...she can make him laugh just by looking his way with a smile!

Our friends that came were; Paco Jordan Kim Madison Ian Gary Patrick Robert and myself. I love this beautiful earth Heavenly Father has created for us to enjoy.

I looked at my last blog and realized...I gotta get better at this blogging, so that will be one of my new goals! As you can imagine MUCH has changed in my cute little Patrick man since the last blog. He is 16 Mo old, walking all over the place...he really took off with that during Thanks giving in Arizona. I have taught him some sign language so we can communicate simple things he needs so he says Please, Thank you, More and All done in sign language. He says, "Thanks, This, Mommy, Daddy, Up, Some, Yumm, Wow and Uh-Oh" verbally too. He blows kisses and waves Hi and Bye too that makes me melt of course!

We had some really warm weather just before Christmas so we went to the beach one sunday morning and had fun taking christmas card photos. We enjoy living in the sunshine of San Diego. Ian loves to be close to the ocean for early morning surfing sessions before work. We are both working hard every day to better our lives little by little. We love the adventures we get to have with Patrick and other family and friends.

8 Months Flys By

I can't beleive it has been 8 months already! Our little Patrick man is so adorable and smart we enjoy him so much every day. Some funny things he is doing these days are he sings real high pitch and then goes to a growl real deep in the same sentence. He smiles so easily and is very friendly to passers-by that stop to tell him how cute he is! He makes motor noises with his mouth like a pro and even does the lips up and down with his own hand. I'll have to show you video!

He loves things dangling above him, (like the string for the fan), keys, steering wheels, and markers or remotes are the toys of choice!

We went to Idaho for my little brothers wedding in April...

so he learned what cold really feels like! We were sure thankful for the Cozy Cover;)

He is eating more and more solid foods...he loves avocado, bell peppers and grahm crackers. Otherwise he eats the baby food meat and vegtables and oatmeal and fruit in the mornings.

He LOVES to stand up to things...he crawls backwards or on his tummy, but he prefers standing. He doesn't quite get how to pull the legs forward to go forward when on his hands and knees so that turns into fussing frustration. Just stand him up and he starts moving those legs where he wants to go!

He checks things out with his thumb..it is really funny. Quite often we see him thumbing things.

Over all we are so happy together as a family and love our little happy Patrick man! We are looking forward to the next 8 months too!

It's been a long time since my last post, so I just wanted to share a couple things we have done since being back in San Diego. We have taken Patrick on our adventures with us...he is the best baby in the world! He likes the dez, mexico and the hot springs too!

Patrick Benjamin Johnston

Born Oct. 14th 2009 at 730am. He weighed 7lb 2 oz. and was 20 inches long. He was delivered by c-section after 24 hours of labor but not coming out. He was stuck in my tailbone just like I said!! He came the day before we were supposed to get induced. So...

Dad got there that night! He got on an earlier flight to try and make it for the birth, but just got there the night of the 14th.

3 More Weeks!!

Oregon with friends!

The summer in San Diego ended for Ian on the scheduled date of July 24th. He graciously said I could extend my ticket for a while so I could attend a family and friend road trip to Oregon to see my Grandma, aunt and cousins that live there. So that is what I did...we all had a great time together!

We brought a 20' pontoon boat with us the whole way so we stopped in Sacramento on the way up and on the way back to run the river and so the girls (friends we brought with us) could have some time with their dad that is living near Sacramento.

Maddy didn't want to miss out on anything, but it was a little early for her!

The trip was TONS of fun

but the ride got long so we had to entertain ourselves how we could with water fights and seat protector hats at the rest stops!

32 Weeks

So here is the belly progress at 32 Weeks. As you can see the shirst are not covering in front so well any more. 32 Weeks is 8 months along! Yeah for one more month! I love this little baby boy inside me and can't wait to meet him.

Idaho Adventures

Ian and I had a really great time with family in Idaho too! We got to go to a cabin in Island Park with my couzins, which was really fun!

The cabin was funny...it had a queen size bunk bed in Ian and my room that looked like it was made of real tree trunks. I am not sure if you can tell with this picture but it basically took up the whole room and it was a little closterphobic sleeping on it! We could either choose to be close to the ceiling or close to the other bed!

We headed out in the morning to explore Island Park...we were mostly looking for some animals!

And my sweet Mom threw us a baby shower! It was fun and made me feel so blessed to know how many people care about this little baby growing inside me.

It hit me when I was seeing all the little clothes that some day pretty soon I would have a little boy to put in those little clothes! Pretty overwhelming actually. Ian said he had the same reaction when he got home and saw them too.

We were very blessed and love everyone!

Reuniting with friends

Ian and I were very happy to be able to visit with some good friends we made in Hawaii! Kind of funny we were reunited in Idaho of all places, haha. They are the kind of friends you can go to places like Beaver Dick park and everyone finds it SO funny we have to take a picture by the sign!

We had a FUN filled day with the Dalleys and the Potts! We climbed the North Menan Butte or what locals call "R" mountain. THe R is for Rexburg, I think. Unless it was for Ricks...Ricks is what BYU Idaho used to be called?

Then there is the famous giant sized hamburger joint "Big Judd's" that we had to visit! Can you imagine eating a hamburger the size of your plate!!

Then we went to Rigby Lake with Rob's Kayak and my family's 4 person raft...we found it a little squishy to actually have 4 people in the raft though! It sure was fun :)

4th of July Adventures

I know these are a little out dated, but I have fallen a little behind in the posts so I am trying to get you all updated! Ian took the summer off from school so he and I went home to San Diego, Arizona, and Idaho. We went to Idaho for the 4th of July and had a great time there. We arrived on the 3rd of July and went to my brother's house to sit on his roof and watch the 'Rigby Lake' fireworks. Ian fell asleep up there, those of you who know Ian know he can fall asleep anywhere, but then he woke when it was time to set off our own fireworks afterwards!

For the 4th we went to the Rexburg parade in the morning where we saw our friends from Hawaii, Robb and Jana Potts! And of course there was a how big is your belly shot!

Then we all went on a hike to Mesa Falls...(from left to right) Kt, Ian, Nick, Anunt Julie, Annie, Kellie, Mom and Dad.

It sure was georgous! There was an upper falls...

and a lower one. Here we all are making our way down there.

It was a nice day and we enjoyed being together!

At 27 weeks, baby is about 9 inches long from head to rump and about 14-15 inches from head to toe, and he weighs about 2 pounds now. I am one week away from my 3rd trimester and from being 7 months along! The baby has taken on the nick name Monster Truck because my 5 year old nephew was trying to think of names and that is what he came up with and we loved it! MT is very active especially if I eat something sweet, as he gets bigger he can really start moving my whole belly around. I am feeling good and loving him more every day!

18 Weeks and IT'S A BOY!

This month has seemed very full of Doctor visits, but the latest most exciting ones told us we were having a BOY! I have to admit if you know me at all I probably told you I would cry if they told me it was a boy...there were a few tears and I needed a couple days to get my head in it, but can honestly say I am happy and feel very blessed to be pregnant with this special little boy. We just pray for his health and strength! I am now 18 weeks and showing just a little more.

Paddle Boarding Adventure

We rented a couple paddle boards on Saturday and had a blast. We had all wanted to try that out, many people make it look so easy and chill out there on the water just paddling along! I found it a little more difficult than it looks but still very very fun. It just take some balance;) which sometimes I am lacking in. Ian made it look easy as he does with a lot of things and all the girls took their turn paddling around.

Ian would head toward the few waves that were breaking to make it a little more exciting!

It's been a really long time since my last blog. So I thought I would start with the BIG stuff...I am 13 weeks pregnant! I am feeling as good as it gets I think? what do I know about this? (nothing!) All in all we are really excited to be taking this adventure!
Maybe some might not think so but when I can not do up my shorts any longer I think I must be showing so here is the 13 week belly so you can be the judge.

We have so much fun with the Delcampo girls! Sunday they were able to come over and see our new place, they also brought birthday gifts the sweethearts! Kim, Jordan, Maddison and I walked to the beach for a little picnic and maybe wade our feet in the water since it was rainy that day and they didn't think they wanted to play in the water completely so they hadn't brought their suits. Everyone ended up pretty wet by the end of the adventure anyway, but we all had fun!

Sometimes it can be difficult to convince maddy to show any kind of attention to anyone but mom!

Saturday September 27th, 2008 Honolulu Zoo

Ian and I got to go to the Zoo! It was really fun, people who have been to and love the San Diego Zoo said it didn't compare, but we enjoyed ourselves. We went with a big group of friends: the Rondos, the Nortons, the Bobbicks, the Prices, the Peirces and a few others I can't remember everyone that was there so if you see this and remember being there don't feel left out just let me know and I will add your names to the list! There were all kinds of animals even some of the human kind! Ha ha

Labour Day

I know that Labour is traditionally not spelled with the u... in America, but it is in other parts of the world so that leaves it open for me to opt in or out. This is my(Ian) first post. Katie has done all the previous posts and I thought I would put in a post. My basic goal is to show off some of the pictures that I take. I am very amateur, but I enjoy playing with our camera. So here goes.
Today was Labour day. I am not exactly sure what Labour day is about but the point is that we don't have school and even if I did, I probably wouldn't pay attention when they were teaching about Labour day. But trial balances, that is something to get excited about.
The day started with a little surfing at a nearby spot to Laie. I went with Jesse Price and Chris Pierce. We had a grand ol' time. I have no pictures of that, other than it was really crowded and my board got a deep ding, it was a fun session.
Later in the day, I journeyed to the Rondo's(I could have misspelled that) residence. Here is what I found there.

For some, if not all, the highlight of the evening was crochet! Oh, I mean croquet!
Let me tell ya, the competition was tough!
We were all so mesmerized, though I still don't know who won.

The house was beautiful and right on the beach in Laie. It would be hard to imagine a better Labour Day. Maybe by next year I will know why we have school off.

Recently Ian and I have decided we need to go exploring new places on the island as much as possible. There is so many amazing places here we want to take full advantage! Last time Ian went to Turtle Bay the waves were amazing so he brought his surf board in case the waves were good again! It was really flat though.

While we were hanging out a couple paddle boarders came and put in. That looks really fun, I think we should try that soon too! I have a hard time balancing on the surf board, but hopefully that paddle board will be easier for me :)

Saturday, August 10th we had a birthday party for Jordan. Her mom Kim and Auntie Michelle planned a really fun day at the park with her friends. We did games like volleyball with a giant ball and bad mitten. We played with water balloons (Jordan got her cast off two days before the party)! And Mom and Auntie planned a really fun treasure hunt! There was a treasure map and clues and then a really fun treasure for all to share at the end!

After we played the organized games, did the treasure hunt and had lunch we all went and played on the jungle gym for a while!

Then came opening presents!

By 2pm when the party was over we were all tired, but had had a really fun day at the park enjoying Jordan and all her friends. She is an amazing little girl that is growing to be an amazing woman! Great work Mom and Auntie and all other influences in her life!

North Shore Shark Adventures

The other day my friend Kim Delcampo and i were talking about adventurous things we should do and the idea came up that we should go swim with the sharks. Then a couple days later i needed paper to print something for work and Ian suggested i go to the TVA office and ask them for a couple peices. I did and while I was there Rob Potts said he thought Ian and I seemed like adventurous people and he and his wife were celebrating their anniversary this year by going out on a boat to swim with sharks! He invited us to go and said he needed to get 10 people for the boat so we could get it for a discount price. I immediately thought of kim of course and she was IN! We went early Tuesday, July 22nd, 2008 and had a really cool time. It wasn't scary, but there were a lot of sharks at arms reach all around us so it was definitely thrilling!

Ian's Pizza Adventure

July 20th, 2008 It was our one month anniversary of being married and Ian LOVES pizza so for something special, he decided he would look up how to and make some pizza! The Hukilauh at Hukilauh

Last week for Laie Days we got in on some Hawaiian traditions that were really cool. It was fun to learn a little about the culture and background of Laie. One event was called Hukilauh at Hikilauh, it was where the fishermen thru out the nets close to shore and then everyone helped when they brought them in, they pulled out all the fish from the nets and then everyone helped clean all the seaweed from the nets so they could be neatly rolled back up and stored away. It didn't take too long with all the hands picking the seaweed and it was really fun to see such a cool tradition.

Katie finds it a little hot and humid in Hawaii so she has cut her hair! It was a shock at first. She would scream everytime she saw her own reflection and washing and brushing her own hair for a few days was hard to get used to! But it has grown on her and now she really enjoys the ease of it and the style is cute on her so it make her happy!

Friday, July 11, 2008 Ian and I went camping at the Botanical Gardens in Kaneohe with some friends. The Price family let us borrow their two man tent that was long enough for us if we were 4-5 feet tall! We are 6+ feet tall so it was fun times!! It was beautiful all around us. We had fun playing frizbee in the dark, and singing while Zane, Anna, Chris and Jackie played musical instruments!

Jackie and Anna made an amazing breakfast for everyone in the morning and we all went on a beautiful nature hike. Then we packed up and went home that afternoon. We had a really fun time!

4th of July

For the 4th of July we went with Chris and Jackie Kontoes to Sunset Beach. Tons of other friends came too. There was some pretty good waves for surfing a little ways out and it was also fun breaking waves close for us to play in. We had a blast playing and visiting all day at the beach. Ian and I had also made plans to meet Michelle and Kim later that day so when everyone was leaving Sunset beach we stayed and waited for them to come pick us up for the fireworks and show we planned to go to with them. There was a free concert in the park at a military base and then some fireworks so we had a great time doing that with them. Ian and I swung the little girls in a towel till our hands were aching! We played tag and had a wonderful picnic! We love hanging out with all our friends:)

Hawaii Beaches

This place, Laie, is quite different than San Diego. I have noticed it is a real realaxed atmosphere. We can walk every where we really need to go right now so we enjoy that. We live right on campus so Ian can walk to classes and I can walk to a grocery store near by, some friends live pretty close so we can go visit them. We are definately having a good time here and Ian is sure this is where we should be right now in our lives. He got confirmation one night at family prayer. I am so thankful for that blessing!

Ian and i love hanging out at the different beaches with our friends! This is Scotty an old frined of Ian's that is going to school here also. Ian is finding quite a few people he knew from back home that are going to school here also, so he is enjoying that a lot.

Ian Michael Johnston and Katie Jo Kirkpatrick were happily married in the San Diego, Ca temple. They enjoyed the day with lots of their friends and family! It was an amazing unforgetable day. Then they had tons of fun for 4 days at the Bahia Resort on Mission Bay. After that they packed up and moved to Laie, HI so Ian could go to school. They subleased an apartment at the Temple View Apartments at BUYH for the summer, or so they thought!! Once they got to BYUH and Ian started classes, the registrar's office asked him if he was just here for the summer or for longer? He said I am not sure how about you tell me! They said you are in for good! Ian's face lit up as he realized he was in BUYH! It has been a dream of his for a while.

San Diego, CA Temple

Ian Michael Johnston and Katie Jo Kirkpatrick were happily married in the San Deigo, Ca temple. They had a lot of their friends and family there to celebrate with them, it was an amazing time! They enjoyed 4 days at the Bahia Resort in Mission Bay and then moved to Laie, HI for Ian's school. They subleased an apartment for the summer in the Temple View Apartments at BUYH.
